President Trump says he will not participate in virtual-style debate with Joe Biden

‘I’m not going to waste my time’

“I’m not going to waste my time on virtual debate. That’s not what debating is all about,” Trump said in an interview on Fox Business. “You sit behind a computer and do a debate. It’s ridiculous, and then they cut you off whenever they want.”

Trump had previously signaled that he intended to take part in the debate despite his diagnosis, tweeting Tuesday that he was “looking forward” to the forum on Oct. 15 and that it “will be great!”

Biden concluded that “we shouldn’t have a debate” if Trump remains infected with the coronavirus.

The Commission for Presidential Debates has announced that the second debate between Donald Trump and Joe Biden will be held as a virtual town hall, with both candidates in remote locations. The move, according to the commission, is to “protect the health and safety of those involved.”

The commission announced last week that the first debate demonstrated the need for “additional structure” in the format of the remaining forums to “ensure a more orderly discussion.”

Joe Biden’s campaign confirmed that the former vice president will be in attendance.

The American people want to see a real debate, we agree with our President. If he does a virtual debate, it will be a fiasco.

Let him use his time wisely working for the American people.
